Finished Plant Man! :)

Hey guys, to begin with I have to say this forum is class! Some excellent artists and technical guys on here that have certainly helped me with there knoledge thus far. Allthough saying that I am still a learner (if were talking car lessons illd probably be on my 4th and still have no clue about a majority of things!) Anyway here is what im working on for a uni project right now.

We have to use our own faces as the characters face so thats the only part that actually looks like me! Yeah I know, I really should work out haha!

Here is the model so far, which I have begun in 3dsmax as the low polly version 5k. Now im modelling in the details in Zbrush and texturing etc. Ive already unwrapped him in 3dsmax so Im hopeing I wont encounter too many problems to completion as I only have 4 days left! Argh!

Any tips on rendering out normal maps would be helpfull at this point so I can get going with it asap. Cheers!

Is he like, ‘Bio-Borg’?

Hehe, yeah he is a wierd one allright  Im having some trouble with normal mapping right now (still new to this part). I will explain where I am and hope someone can help me out and point me in the right direction…ok here goes :

1)I created a low polly model in 3dsmax
2)exported from max flipping the coirdinates and into Zbrush.
3)Stored a morph target
4)Sculpted my Zbrush model up to iteration 6.
5)In iteration 6 click create normal map, with tangent selected at 2048.
6) Go back to max and to my low polly model.
7)place the normal map in a dx 9 shader with normal bump on.
8) Total balls up!

OOPS also I unwrapped the origianl low polly in max before exporting to Zbrush!

Hmmm, ive tried creating a non tangent normal map, and adaptive but still no such luck…ive included a screenshot of the mess its producing…I really hope someone can help!! :frowning:

Aha! No worrys on replying guys as I have figured out whats what. Those eyes ere linked to the model in max and I never unwrapped them so zbrush did it for me. So expect a normal map on my low polly shortly

And heres the normal map on a 5000polly mesh

I think its a good start, but i wish that you have pushed the plant aspect of it besides just the one branch out of his back and the one arm that looks like a pitcher plant. My advice is exagerate the plant aspect even more pushing the vines even more, or having the guys veins come out and turn into the vines and or what not.

Theres a cartoon called Ben 10, and one of his heroes is plant baised thats pretty pushed conceptually might give u some ideas.

Model itself looks good though.

Hey thanks man, haha! I just wrote in my report that I would have loved to make the plant infestation more dominant. You see, in the ICA we got given it stated only 25percent of the human bodys anatomy could be coverd up, ie: robot arm, robot leg etc. So i was pushing it with just the one brance really. Its all good though, because this is my last ICA for this year so now its onto my own projects…no limits!

Also a movie to check out is Origin. Which has people morph into trees at points in the movie. Great anatomy, you can see a lot of it still in the low poly model.

It’s bad enough that some super snot boyscout is going to pound on this fella, but being ugly as well, is just mean!!!

Cheers guys, im glad you like the anatomy as that was my main focus for this project. Haha! Hey! Ugly guy maybe, beaten up by snotty boyscouts…I dont think so!
