file write error [Answered]

hi,

Whilst rendering earlier I got a file write error - bellyaching about lack of disk space. A quick check didn’t show anything clogged up, I quit all other programs, restarted the finder (I’m on a MacPro) but ZBrush refused to continue, requiring a force quit.

There was plenty of disk space available (well, 60Gb, which isn’t a huge amount I know but surely enough), over 4Gb of free RAM… I have a dedicated raid scratch disk which I’ve tried to point ZBrush to, but I’m unsure if it uses it.

Most of the disk write error threads I’ve found are concerning GoZ, which I have no trouble with usually. I’ve enquired about ZBrush’s scratch and memory usage on here before, but it seems a complicated business that not many people fully understand - hopefully someone can help me out

update - it seems this isn’t so much a geniune error as a bug. I’ve had zero problems all day until I tried the ‘reuse existing maps’ option again. I got the error msg straight after trying it this morning and again this afternoon.

It seems the AO option also causes trouble in conjunction with ‘reuse existing’…

Anyone else come across this?

Yes, this is a known issue. It happens with a new render - in other words, after moving the mesh. If you turn it on for repeat renders (when you haven’t moved the mesh) it should be OK.

oh. OK - thanks Marcus.
so no moving of the mesh, got it. hopefully it’ll be fixed in an update

sorry for the late reply - I didn’t get an email notification.
