FiberMesh feature ideas and suggestions - feel free to add!

Hello

I’ll be collecting some wishes/ideas here that popped up during grooming

Please feel free to add!

  • an option to prevent grooming brushes from moving fiber points along the Z direction (it would mean: “move fiber on screen plane only”). Maybe with a slider. This would minimize grooming side effects when some styling has already been done from another angle. Just as an option of course, not as default setting.

  • Some sort of one-shot “repair” function to resample all fibers so all segments will be made the same length (with changing the overall fiber shapes as little as possible)

  • Ability to have some snapping distance around the fiber (not only the base point) for the grooming brushes. I often tumble the view, by accident

  • A shorten hair brush (The smooth brush does it a little but a special one would be nice that keeps the shape)

  • “ByMask” option separate for length and coverage. Often I would like to have fibers getting shorter by masking, but not thinner

In silent hope for dev consideration

can’t edit anymore

Some new ideas I’ve had:

  • “Align” Brush: Would align/morph fibers to shape of the neighboring fibers (neighbors in term of: “at the origin point”) With option to consider visible strands only. Would be a great help to even out the funky looking parts
  • Performance speed up for “Auto Groups”: Right now waiting for it, ususally takes 40 minutes to complete for 100.000 fibers. I use it to do random masking. (Auto Groups->Polypaint->Mask by Hue)

  • Masking fibers: Mask brush does 100% or 0% masking only. Would be super useful to have an option to mask a fiber at f. ex. 50% like polygons (but in whole), includes maybe a possiblilty to do mask smoothing across neighboring fibers

  • A brush which pushes the fibers on the surface/ or out of it when they’re caught inside

  • A brush setting that makes the brush transform not only the sphere area where the fibers were clicked, but the whole area inside the cursor circle (cylinder through the whole Z range)
