fibermesh animation in 3Ds Max

Hello zbrush community.
Is it possible to animate fibermesh hair in 3Ds Max or the fibers are created only for static presentation?

thanks in advance,
Nikos

The geometry that you create in fibermesh can’t be animated but you can export the curves that make the hair and use those curves with a hair plugin in max. Once you have created the hair in fibermesh make sure you have it selected in the subtool pallet, go to preview settings in the fibermesh pallet and turn on fast preview if it isn’t already. this will show you the curves that drive the fibermesh geometry. The pre vis slider next to it allows you to adjust how many curves are on display. If you are exporting the curves for hair in another app like 3ds max you dont need to export all of the curves so adjust the slider till you have enough curves to represent a ruff idea of the style of the hair. Also depending on your computer you probably won’t be able to import millions of curves into max, I try to aim around 5000-15,000. (i7QC, 8gig ram, win 7 64 bit)
Any way from there you want to go down to export curves in the fibermesh pallet and hit export curves! This will open up a dialog that tells you how many curves you will be exporting. Hit ok and it will export the curves as an obj.
Then in max import the obj file and before you click ok make sure that you have import as single mesh ticked and also shapes/lines ticked. Once its all imported you just drop a hair and fur modifier on it or another hair plugin and go from there.
Thats all I can tell you as I’m painfully learning to use hair in max at the mo and I’m finding it a bit of a nightmare.
Anyway I hope That helps.
Good luck
