Just played around with ZBrush and came up with an interesting little trick.
It just didn’t occur to me until now, that you can actually use the FiberBrush in ZSub mode to give the surface an interesting, scratched look, as if brushed with a steel brush:
The above was created by using the FiberBrush with a Thickness of 3, low Density and high Turbulence (to randomize the direction of the scratches) with a normal “dots” stroke. The Z Intensity was very low, about 3 or so, while the Draw --> Height was quite large to increase the scratches’ length. Try different settings for various interesting results.
I then drew onto the surface with a BumpBrush in ZAdd mode, using a DragRect stroke to distribute the brush’s effect evenly on the surface. The BumpBrush “inflates” the bumps and narrows the crevices between them, creating an interesting bumpy surface that looks like a tongue, or a toad’s back:
I then Undoed the BumpBrush stroke, switched it to ZSub, then made the DragRect stroke again. This time the BumpBrush carved away and expanded the scratches, creating a crater-like surface:
Well, here’s hoping some of you will find these useful!
