Female Nude (WIP) - First post

Hello everyone. I’ve started getting comfortable with Zbrush after a long period of going through several tutorials. Now I wanted to see if I could test my skills to see if I could make a female nude study. I’ve been studying a lot of anatomy the past couple of years during my free time but I’m not really comfortable with the knowledge in my brain.

So here is my work in progress. It is at a 7 level subdivision with a 14 Million points count. I’m not sure if that is alot or if I could push my computer to high subdivisions.

I realize there is still work to be done on the ears, face (especially the mouth), feet, etc. I have no clue how to make eye brows and I haven’t even thought about the hair yet. What bothers me is that there seems to be some distortion on the face- If I subdivide it, I’m sure I can fix the distortions but I wonder how much polycounts is too much. Maybe I’m being too conservative…I don’t know.

So I’m still a beginner and I welcome any Zbrush tips and crits on my anatomy.

EDIT: I have to note that I built this model with Zspheres. I really regret placing a hole (negative Zsphere) where the mouth was. That really caused a lot of problems for me later on. I guess you live and learn.

for a first attempt thats not bad. though it might help you if you got some good reference.

it looks like alot of tweeks are required all over, however the part that stands out for me is the head, which seems to be disproportionate to the body, it may be the face though making it look big.

hope that helps

Im also new to zbrush and am currently doing the same project. I wouldnt worry about subdividing it that much. I recently went to high on sud div and my file became corrupted. I think it is better to start on sub1-2 and get the basic shapes and proportions figured out. Then step up each time adding more detail. Working on a sub div as high as 8 will create more work for you. You should definately use some kind of reference. I used an anatomy book i had lying around. Feel free to have a look at mine although isnt perfect might help. Im only on sud div 5 with final details.

Good luck

You know…I totally forgot that you can mask out parts of the model and subdivide the parts that are unmasked. That would definately help a lot espcially in the face.

Like I said, I’m still learning…I’m trying to remember all this technical stuff.

Thanks for the posts guys. I agree with you, digi-mech, the head looks bad. I will post updates. sebastianf, I’ll check out your stuff.

Xevious- zbrush will always crash when i do that.

Hi.

I am quite new to zbrush and - about high poly counts - I think that high levels of subD are bad. First of all - if you have 14millions - that are points - 14 millions points - wchich results in more than 14 millions polys in the end.

And second - I think that maximum poly count for smooth workflow is 2 millions - beyond that you should use HD sculpt to gest finest details. I work currently on projcets with 7 miilions and it takes too much time to switch between sub-d levels, hide and unhide parts of the model - zbrush always compact memmory and read from virtual - an I have 6GB of ram - so I think HD scuplt is the solution. But I may be wrong.

Regrads.

Ok…I was having problems with some of the distortion I encountered with the first model so I started from scratch and made another female nude.

This time, I managed the points count much more effectively and so the following pictures are at a level 6 subdivision with a total point count 982,404 (as oppose to my previous model which was at a level 7 subdivision at 14 million point counts).

So yeah I’m getting a little more efficient. I still have a lot of tweaking to do. The head is something I’m a little worried about. It just doesn’t look right at all.

Forget the details such as eyes, mouth ears etc.

Focus on proportions and main shapes - use referneces - here is a link that might be usefull:
