Feature Animation WorkFlow

The illustration reflects the software i have and where I think it might be used. Comments and/or other software you think should be added would be appreciated.

First, I have Adobe Production Suite CS5 and have been looking for information on using several of the programs like Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere. Also have Sonar 8.5 studio and ZBrush 4.

The confusing part to is -
How is Flash C5 pro used to create feature length animated films?

*I have been searching for days for information about using Flash in the creation of feature length animated films and all the videos on youtube I could find where about web related usage and so where the other I viewed that google turned up. I did turn up one movie that Flash was used in a feature animated movie for a classical 2d animation style. The name of the movie is Romeo & Juliet, Sealed With A Kiss by Phil Nibbelink. through my searching so far one item turns up but no referance on how to set up Flash otherwise if not using them and that is - DO NOT USE ACTIONS. Ok, do not use actions and no referance on how to set up Flash to use it’s tools in the creation of 2d feature animated film. I know it can be done as Phil Nibbleink’s Romeo & Juliet, Sealed With A Kiss illustrates that it can.
NOTE: If you have information (links, etc) on tutorials for using Flash in feature animated film making I would appreciate links to them (I would prefer video tutorials). If you know if some of the companies that create training videoes for Flash have these type of of training videos please post who they are and the name of the course. I have went through some of the sites that create training videos for Flash and I could not find any they seemed to be for web usage and used actions.

*During my searching for using Flash in feature animation film making I read a lot of toon boom vs flash items (and I am not starting a toon boom vs flash post here) one thing that seems to stand out for toon boom is the camera fly throughs. Not having used Flash CS5 yet can this be done in Flash CS5 or is this where After Effects or Premiere is used to get that type of effect.

*Sense Flash is a vector program and more than likely the backgrounds and some fore grounds would be made in photoshop (raster) would Flash be used to create the characters and import (if they can be imported) into After Effects or Premiere to be able to use the raster backgroud (looking for a way to use the raster background non-destrutively) and should the the raster from photoshop be brought into After Effects or Premiere as an object layer? Having look at Illustrator’s new bristle brush (which create in vectors) it looks like it might be able to get a very painterly background and a more detailed character to animate any thoughts on this. Digressing some.

TIA
John

The French 2D animation software package called TVPaint Animation is worth a look. It is a comprehensive all-in-one, pixel-based, paperless solution used by many animators for commercials, independent shorts and for feature length animation productions.

You’ll find their website >>> HERE <<<.

They have a small but active forum where most of the members are animation professionals who willingly answer queries.

There is a down-loadable TVpaint trial package which will give you a feel for what the software is like.

The site also provides more than a few tutorials that demonstrate various aspects of the software.

Two versions available: Standard and Pro.

p.s. The feature film “My Dog Tulip”, now playing at the Film Forum in New York, is a hand-drawn, hand-colored, all-digital production created by a husband/wife team (Paul and Sandra Fierlinger) using TVpaint Animation Pro. It took three years to create and has been very favorably reviewed over the past month. .PDF of Reviews about the film “My Dog Tulip”

What is the reason you need to use Flash to do bitmap based animation? Do you mean vector plus bitmap background? If you want your animation in Flash Video, there are converters and if you want the type of frame by frame method, Swish Max can do it.

From my personal point of view, time line control and effect of a 3D program is much better than Flash.

Sven thanks for the info - found some clips of “My Dog Tulip” at youtube. I went to the site and do you know if the Standard ver can out put film quality footage? Or would that be the Pro ver?

3dassets not a need to use Flash to bitmap based animation trying to figure out how Flash would be used in a workflow for creating a feature animation film.

There is a side-by-side comparison of features in the current releases >>> HERE - TVPA9 vs TVPAP9 <<<.

I use the Pro version and don’t really know about output for the standard version. (I assume output for both are the same) What I would suggest is a visit to the site forum where you can post any questions directly. You’ll get an immediate (within a few hours) answer to most any query.
