Fantasy Architecture in ZBrush?

It seems ZBrush is a very powerful application and there are some fantastic creatures and characters in the galleries here.

My own interests lie in creating fantasy architecture (temples, courtyards, etc.) Can ZBrush handle this sort of thing as well as creatures/characters?

Has anyone tried to use the program in this way?

Thanks

I dont see why it wouldnt be able to handle it. You would just import the base mesh into Zbrush and then texture or alter the architecture as you see fit. Zbrush is good for altering a base mesh and providing intricate details. Unfortunately creating objects in Zbrush can get a little tricky sometimes. They have a free trial. Download it and import some basemeshes and see what you can do. ZBrush will definitely help you achieve a greater level of realism to your architecture.

I think a lot of people would have trouble making architecture in Zbrush, due to the fact that if you aren’t careful, Zbrush will make everything beveled and organic. However, if you know what you’re doin, you should be able to maintain those hard edges where you need them. Also, you could simply import into Zbrush with the amount of polies desired and simply do your detail work inside of Zbrush.

Thanks.

My idea was to import a mesh from Wings and then use ZBrush to detail and texture (although I’m not sure how easy it is to texture in ZBrush yet)

I’ll give it a try.

If you are interest of architecture : try the free Google Sketchup
MAybe the more powerful and easiest architectural modeler
The only problem is that you can’t export in OBJ format
(with the pro version yes)
else you can make realistic renderer with the free Kerkythea
Have fun modeling!

PS But Zbrush can also make some fantasy architectures : see Meats Meyer

ZBrush will work very well for that. All you need to do is take control of the smoothing when you subdivide. You can either use creasing or switch off smoothing.

ZBrush was used in the movie “Underworld evolution” to model some ruins
so you can certainly build "decayed "architecture !

Luma Pictures gave us a video interview on the subject of creating the fortress from thave movie. You can view it on the second page of movies at http://www.pixologic.com/behindthescenes/

There’s also this thread about U:E http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=032753

what I have been doing is importing my basemesh and than turning off moth and subdividing it and than using the layer brush with a stored morph target. Get some Pretty Good effects there.
