Facial hair whiskers for 3d print

Hi all

I am struggling to find a way to create facial hair in the form of a short beard. I need a way that doesn’t involve fibermesh as I want it to 3D print . Ideally, looking for the fidelity of fine short whiskers of varying lengths. I saw that Will Harbottle (Sideshow) uses an IMM brush that does something similar and was wandering if anyone knows how to go about constructing one or know of any that are for sale?

Thanks in advance

Fibermesh assets can be 3d printed. You need to make adjustments to the bpr settings and/or the profile slider in Fibermesh/Modifiers. adjust the slider to 4 or more sides per fiber. This will generate an unruly amount of geometry, so make the other modifier adjustments as needed. For an asset like a beard, this should not be much of an issue.

If you opt for the BPR settings method, make sure that the sides slider is at least 4, thus the fibers will have 4 sides in the render. In Geometry, Convert BPR to Geo will convert the fibers into 4 sided strands. If the fibermesh has good density, I would subdivide at least once, then dynamesh the fibers into a mass. This can then be printed.

I hope this helps.

@carver: Wow OK I didn’t know you could do that with Fibermesh. I thought it was just for rendering. I will give that some investigation thanks!
