Faceted Mesh Problem when BRough in to Zbrush

Hey Guys

I am pretty new to zbush and slowly feeling my way around. I am having one issue so far, when I bring in a obj into zbush and sub-div the mesh, it still has a faceted look to it. Only if i push up the suddivs to 6 does it look sorta smooth… and when I export out the Normal map, the faceting is in the map and shows up in my renders.

Has anyones else had this problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

What does your base mesh look like before you divide it? If it is triangles, that would cause the problem because triangles do not smooth on the first division. This in turn keeps the model more angular.

Anyway, make sure that Tool>Geometry>Smt is active when you divide. That tells ZBrush to smooth upon dividing. (Although as previously mentioned, triangles do NOT smooth.)

Also, you can turn off Preferences>Quick and set Tool>Display Properties>DSmooth to the max. This will cause the mesh to be smoothed any time you’re not directly interacting with it.
