Face painting

I tend to spend most of my time modeling and I forget about the texturing part. This is just a close up of some face painting that I was doing tonight for practise. I had a certain idea in mind about what I wanted and I was happy that it came out close to what I was thinking of.

Fascinating! Love the eye. And is the pseudo-skin meant to represent the mask that we all wear above our own true faces?

A most vivid and otherworldly image Zoid. His glistening skin reminds me of a newborn still wrapped in membrane. Oogy!

I like the texture, it looks a lot like stone. Very nice work !

Strong image Zoid - a very penetrating gaze :+1:

jd

Good work Zoid !! Very particular image !!!

very nice…very clean…what res are you working at? I at first thought this was a scar victim from a fire…the skin had that crispy critter I am trying to heal look to it…great job :+1:

veryvery strange and beautiful as well… bravissimo, Zoid!!!

Very nice indeed, like you can see the muscle through transparent skin. :+1:

Very nice Zoid

I watched blade 2 last night and somehow this reminds me of that

Ewey gooey Spawn like skin. When can we see the full picture?

Thanks everyone. It’s nice that you can see the effect that I was going for - translucent skin with a strange inner glow. And yes it does also kind of look like the skin of an overcooked hotdog  I’ve seen the work of an artist who calls himself Taron. You can go to his Renderosity Spotlight session here and if you scroll down to the fourth question, you can see his answer to how he makes this eerie glow in his images. I wanted to try it ZBrush style, with no Photoshop. I used two layers and rendered the head with the colorized glow material on of them and then the with basic material on the other layer. Then I blended the two layers together with the clonerbrush. The entire image is 1800 x 2000. I’ll add it to the top of the page tonight when I get home.
Thanks also to Caliban for reminding me about Southern’s bump mapping technique and the ways you can alter it. I tried it out on this image also. It’s basically like doing the AlphaCentury thing on a modeled form and it works very well

Zoid, I love this look, and I would also love to see a script on the material creation…This looks like a wonderful method to create certain gemstone materials…

Exellent Image Zoid !!! Refreshing ,Individual and Dynamic :grimacing: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I was going to post the full version of the image above but it is just more of the same and you don’t get to see the detail, so I decided to redo it real quick and added a few friends

I made this image at low resolution unfortunately, but it came out looking like an old sci-fi movie poster, which is a style I really like.
Stonecutter, this technique is more about layer mixing which would be great for anything which has an inner glow, or fire, smoke, blurred motion, or other atmosphereic effects. I am going to make a script soon. I enjoy making them.

Thanx, Zoid!! I’m looking forward to your Script…(I collect yours in their own folder!)
And it DOES look like an old movie poster!

Nice work Zoid.
Every time I do a sky or sea I think of you and the help you gave me. I know this is not the place but thanks again for all your unselfish help.
