EYES & UV's - SubTools?

Hi,

I have a very simple model: a tortoise with a body, a shell, a left eye, a right eye, a tongue, an upper pallette and a lower pallette. The throat is part of the body mesh unless there is a reason I should keep the throat as a separate model tucked in close and behind the lips.

I have unwrapped the UV’s for the body and shell and positioned them in the first quadrant but I am unsure how to proceed with the UV’s for the remaining subtools, especially the eyes.

I want to have very special eyes and have spent some time on this. There are many tutorials on eye construction but I am leaning toward Alex Olivier’s eye tutorial. This means my eyes have a white ball, a translucent shell (with corneal bulge), a black half-sphere inside the eye for depth information and an iris model. This means my eyes have 8 pieces. How do I set up the UV’s for this?

Thanks!

All I can say is that you’re going to need to use a UV editing program and manually lay out the model.

Thanks, Aurick.

I am using Blender to unwrap and edit UV’s. I have unwrapped and laid out the body and shell but I have seen layouts where some of the meshes lie outside of the 0,1 quadrant. For my simple model, can I just adjust the scale on the separate tools so that everything fits in 0,1? And if I want the eyes to have lots of detailed info for close-ups and caustics, should I scale the eye meshes larger than say, the tongue?

Also is it okay to use a sphere for the eyes with a polar layout or is it better to uses a sphere with regular quads, like the Sphere 3D tool?
