Extrusion Artifacts

I am having an issue with extruding geo that is already subD. I take it to the lowest level and hit extrude and then when I take the levels back up past 3 the geo that was Extruded goes crazy. I saw a post where SpaceBoy412 posted to use the Freeze Transformations button but I have still had no luck. Can someone tell me the proper order to use the freeze transformations button…keep in mind that the geo already has sculpted information up to level 5 and I don’t want to loose that just to extrude this other piece. However I do want to extrude this other piece in order to form the lips of my character.

Okay I figured it out on my own. The workflow is actually quite simple.

 Ancient chinese secret? :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL, Nah man, I just figured everyone else knew since no one told me LOL:p…But the way it works is that you have to set the model to highest SubD Level you have sculpted on and then set the Freeze Transform. Then hide all objects but the one to be edge looped and create your Edge loop but before you bring the objects back on screen, hit the Equalize Surface Area button. After you do that you can bring all objects back on screen and then hit the Freeze Transform button to unfreeze (Paste) the new data to the old (sculpted) data.

That is it!

Thanks! That should help anybody that’s doing a search for a solution to the same problem.

Thanks for this. I’ve spent hours banging my head against a wall trying to do an edge loop without artifacts.

Glad I could help

+1 for the heads up. Wasted 4 hours on this last night.
How did the flash of brilliance come to you to push the Equalize surface Area button?
