extruding out geometry without losing polygons

What is the best way to extrude out geometry without loosing polygons? Im trying to sculpt tongues coming out of something but when i sculpt out the tongues using the standard brush, i stretch out the polygons which gives me less detail. Is there a way to do this without losing polygons?

Currently, no. You should wait until you get Z4R2 which will start tomorrow Sept. 20th/2011 as this might change.

Alright thanks. im instead using zpheres for the tongues and will blend them into the main mesh they come from. With losing polygons I just meant that im extruding out more space in the mesh and the polygons that I am using to extrude them out are getting stretched out and therefore larger, which means i have less detail.
