"Extruding" Inwards

Hi guys. Brand new ZBrush user here (and forum member!) It’s a pleasure to meet everyone.

I recently just got through some tutorials in regards to ZBrush. I am now just getting comfortable with the UI.

After playing around I came across the Extract button that will extract any mesh that you can use for things like clothing based upon the mask. This is super cool.

My question is, is there a method or tool to “Extrude Inwards” like one would do in Maya or 3DS? What would be the best way to go among doing this?

Is it possible to select a mesh, and then Extrude the geometry inside, then push it back to make it uniform (and not have to do the playing game with the zsub brush?) I’ve figured out how to pull it all out using the Extract, but how about if I want to go into the reverse direction, in towards the mesh? How can I accomplish this without having the mesh intersecting with the polytool mesh underneath?

I understand that you can go negative values, but it doesn’t seem to be giving the look I’m after (or I don’t completely understand it).

Thanks everyone, have a great day!

Next to the Extract button is a Thickness slider. Set it to a negative value.

Thanks for the reply.

This seems to be intersecting with my original mesh and becomes hidden since it makes it a new “part”. How can I prevent the model from hiding under the original mesh since it retains the original in its own subtool, while still getting the effect?

Thanks!

Can’t you just resize it?
