Exporting polypaint to OBJ file

When I export a polypainted mesh to OBJ format and import it back in, the color is gone. When I view the OBJ file in a text editor there seems to be color info there. What is the proper way to do it?

What I want to do is to send a color model to a 3D foundry to be printed. But they don’t accept ZTL format files.

Have you looked into 3D Print Exporter plugin?

Ah, I didn’t try that. I kept using the Export button from the Tools palette.

I can see from the 3D Print Exporter tool tip that OBJ format does not support color, but STL does. I can now export and re-import an STL with color. Thanks!

However, now I come to the next problem. My original mesh is probably too big for the 3D printer. I can use Decimation Master to decimate it. But after decimation all the colors disappear. I tried using Project All. But the colors become blotchy. Seems like some of the vertices don’t get any projected colors.

So now my question is: What is the proper way to transfer polypaint to a decimated mesh?

Preferences: Decimation Master: Use and Keep Polypaint

That works! Thanks so much. ZBC is a great community indeed!
