Hi, is there anyway to export out an image of the model your working on with an alpha…
Thing is that I want to export an image of my model in zbrush but I don’t want to have a back ground, I would like to put my own back ground in photoshop…
Thanks…

:bump:
i would like to know this as well.
i usually just turn my background to white then magic wand it out, but an alpha channel export would be oss.
yeah, I normally do the same thing…It would be nice if zbrush can just export an alpha channel with the image…
It’s easy!
Don’t just export your document. You also need to press Alpha>GrabDoc and then export the resulting alpha. This will be a depth map of your canvas.
In Photoshop you can load the depth mask as a selection alpha. You can also adjust its levels so that it’s all black and white (a true mask) rather than grayscale depth values.
The fact that this approach gives you a depth mask means that you can do some cool depth of field or compositing stuff in Photoshop (or AfterEffects, etc.) which wouldn’t be possible with a straight alpha mask.
awesomimo Aurick. Many thanks for that.
How does one’load the depth mask as a selection alpha?’
In Photoshop, one can ctrl click on a layer with transparency and get a selection which then can be applied as a mask, but the depth map exported out of Zbrush is filled completely. Anyone care to give a step by step on this one. I want to create a depth of field effect in photoshop but just don’t know how to use the depth map.
i ran into the same problem, i can not select it as a mask once in PS, it selects all the pixels in the layer. Aurick, when you have a sec, could you please explain this a little more, i know this is not a PS forum, and I am usually pretty savvy with PS but I can not grasp this one.
until then, I am now just making the BG’s bright keying green and then keying it out in PS.
thanks
for a depth alpha selection just click on the channels tab on the layer pallete and do the Contl click on the only layer shown icon to make a selection out of the model.
for a true alpha selection first go to levels and crank the white arrow all the way to the black one to turn the alpha to only black and white with no grays then do as above.
save the selection and load it on the image you want to use it on.
that’s it
