Is there a way to export out the highest subdivision level of your ZTool?
You can always export out an .obj of any geometry (within system/software limits), but few programs other than zbrush will be able to open and manipulate it because of its polygon count. Exporting zbrush detail for rendering low poly versions of your model in outside applications generally involves the use of displacement and normal maps, which is a very large subject in itself.
So when I try to export out the highest subdivision level, but it only creates an obj at 0kb, that because my system can’t handle it?
It’s a possibility. Or perhaps you are exceeding Zbrush’s own ability to save the file out, but ZB can export some really large files. Couldnt say without more info.
Try dropping a subD level and see if you can export that out.
It’s tool>export>save as obj, with an active tool, just to be clear.
Yea, thats what I’m doing. It works for the levels 1-6 the highest of those being 4.5 mil. when it comes to level 7 at about 16mil it doesn’t do anything.
16 mil is a lot. You can work on it and save it ok inside ZB ok if your system allows it, but it’s into the problematic range for some operations and program stability. You likely had to adjust maximum limits in memory preferences to even allow a mesh that large, and when you do that all bets are off.
If the next major version is 64 bit as announced, you should probably be able to export larger, but really, if ZB cant export it, no other program is going to work well with it either.
In the meantime, you could try splitting the model into subtools if applicable. For a large continuous mesh, if you need that much detail, consider using HD geometry and exporting displacement maps, instead of increasing the active polycount that high.
