Export Scale, Deformation Size

What is the relationship between the scale slider in the export options and the scale slider in the deformation area? I am pretty sure they are not 1:1.

I have an issue where my model in max was out of scale with the zbrush tool. To match scales using the Export Scale Slider, I set it to 75 which matches perfectly. To match scale using the Deformation Size Slider, I have to set it to -62.975, and even then it is not pefect.

Is there a reason for the disparity?

As I build the rest of my project, I would rather not have to set all of my tools to an Export Scale of 75 to be consistent. That will introduce all kinds of production issues across the studio. How do I figure out what to set my Deformation Size on this one ztool in order to get a perfect scale match?

I went and derived some precise numbers from max

Model at Export Scale of 100 = 95.9568 units tall.
Model at Export Scale of 75 = 71.9036 units tall.

(That is actually a percentage difference of 74.9333, FWIW)

So now how do I figure out how to scale my subtools by a factor of 74.9333 using the Deformation Size slider? Trying -25.0667 is nowhere even close.

Hello Alannoon

When you are exporting the new mesh from MAX as an OBJ what are you importing it on top of? Are you changing the Export values in the Export Sub-Palette in ZBrush.

The scale and offset numbers should be all the same values on every subtool. If they are not that is were your issue is.

For example:

One subtool has values

Scale: 62.34
offset x: 0.0098
offest y: 1.23
offset z: 2.345

and the second subtool has these values

Scale: 1
Offset X: 0
Offset Y: 0
Offset Z: 0

you will need to reset the seconds subtool to match the first and make sure all subtools have the same values. I would recommend importing the new subtools on the polymesh star and then open the export sub-palette to make the values there match up with the rest of the mesh.

Thanks for the response.

Perhaps I didn’t explain it well enough… All of my subtool export values are the same and my subtools are all matching in scale and offset.

The problem is from ZBrush to 3DSMax. The scales are of. I want 1:1 scale, and right now I have 3:4.

Do me a favor, export a piece of your mesh that you are working on from MAX into ZBrush by selecting the polymesh star. What are the values in the export sub-palette.

As long as these values match on the Tool with the multiple subtools then there will be a 1:1 scale. you just may have a scale issue on the mesh you are exporting from ZBrush that is why I need you to check that the values of the original MAX mesh is matching the mesh that you have been working on in ZBrush.
