Export normals in OBJ file?

Hi!

I can’t believe it is almost 10 years ago since I registered here at ZBrushCentral. Does Pixolator still post those awesome images and tips? Is Glenn Southern still around here?

University came between me and ZBrush but it is now nice to be back!

So, my question:

Is it possible to include normal data for vertices when exporting a model in the OBJ format? I couldn’t see any settings in ZBrush, maybe there is some plugin that could help me etc?

Thank you in advance,
Pat

Anyone, please?

No, you have to export normal data as a projection-based image and apply it using a shader in whichever application you decide to use. Because it’s image based, you have to take care of the UV’s before export. Zbrush has a powerful tool for laying out UV’s called UV Master. You can read about it here: http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/features/UV-Master/

Also, as an aside, normal data is something calculated on a per pixel basis - the vertices are not influenced by it. A displacement map will actually move verts around though. Zbrush can also export these, but you’ll have to do a little research to figure out the details. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply!
