export displacements only

Hi,

I’m new to Zbrush so I guess it’s a very basic question. I’m want to model water droplets over a soda can and I trying to modify a simple cylinder in Zbrush to extrude the drops. Now I need only the modified polygons (the droplets) for using it in Lightwave. It’s possible to export only the modified geometry ?

thanks

Have you thought of creating a displacement map and rendering that?

If displacement mapping won’t work, here are your options:

If your droplets were sculpted on a 3D layer, you can use Layers>Make 3D to convert them to independent geometry. That will become a new SubTool that you can export.

If your droplets weren’t sculpted on a 3D layer, it’s more difficult. What I would do is import the model again and append it as a SubTool. Then divide it to the same subdivision level as the source. Create a new 3D layer and then press Tool>SubTool>Project All. This will copy the droplets from the original model to the new one, but this time they’ll be on a 3D layer. You can then use the Make 3D button to convert them to their own SubTool.
