export chunks?

hi

i’m working on a character at the moment and i’ve finished the zbrush stage of detailing and now want to import the model in 3ds max to finish other parts of the character and then produce normal maps. but i’m having trouble import high poly zbrush model into max. i’m using polycruncher and performing batch optimizations which optimizes the model and given percentage values, but its running out of memory. the zbrush model is about 3 million polys. so what i wanted to do is export the zbrush model as chunks of about 500,000 - 1,000,000 polys which i know polycruncher can handle. but how would i break the zbrush model down in to chunks for export?

using zbrush 3.1

thanks for any help! :slight_smile:

What you have to do is creat poly groups.

in the zbrush menu it is: Tool/polygroups

Simply ctrl+shift and select part of you model hidding the rest.

Than press “group visibe”

if you have “frame” turned on it will turn to a diffent color.

Now if you show the entire model it will have diferent color pices.

You can simply ctrl+shift click to hide and show the selected polygroups now.

Simple export them at the pices at the highest level and you should be fine.

You may have to save you polygrouped model and select the group you want to export, than delete hidden, export. Than undo you re-import the full model.
