That used to happen to me as well when I exported the model to .obj and later used Lightwave to create UV’s: during this operation, I had to unweld points, set UV’s, and then weld points again, and this affected the polygon order.
So, after resaving the obj and imported it in ZBrush, the tool was exploded.
Could this be the same issue for you ?
Working through it I just figured it out. I found an article explaining the process and as it turns out (for Maya) you have to make sure the .obj imports as a single object not multiple objects. Its just one check box in the import settings for obj. Never worked with lightwave so I’m not sure if there are any settings like that but, it solved my issue.
