Thank you gentlemen for your kind words.

Another recent 2.5D piece

haunted-maffaroons.jpg

1 of 6 recent pieces for a commission ( year ending 2015) for which I found myself working in ZBrush’s 2.5D environment . I had quite forgotten how deliciously esoteric an environment it is and intend to ramble it’s paths and follow it’s burrows a little further.

Yours etc,

Boozy

I absolutely love your work sir. When I saw the libidinous prawn, I stopped my wife from working and said you’ve got to see
this piece. It is both whimsical and original a true delight . Bonus points for using the word libidinous in the title .
You have two new fans .

Ps I wonder if i can convince the missus to get an eye tattoo on her butt .

Hi Boozy,

Truly delightful new worx - thanks for taking the time to share these new stories, beautiful worlds and wonderful characters

Boozy, Once again you have captured my more prawniferous side. Me thinks the Philosopher in you is coming out.
Excellent, wonderful, and ever so Boozy.
Word

Thank you Pygmalion, with regard the matter of the eye tattoo - putting it to your partner that it would be a way to keep an eye on you even when her back was turned might be a deal breaker.

Mr Geert, thank you Sir - as much for your kind reply as for the knowledge you have imparted over the years for which I am indebted.

Mr Wordsmith , a prawniferous side you say?
May I say that I became lost in thought for some time imagining the unspoken narrative contained within that statement
Bless you for the giggle and your kind hello.

Boozy

thanks for those wonderful and poetic images, hug a friend, not express very well in English, his images tell many interesting things, thanks for sharing:+1:

A new piece, once again having fun working in ZBrush’s 2.5D mode.

three-houlets_zbc.jpg

For this piece color and texture were applied to Pixol forms across five layers using background elements positioned to catch the light for the purpose of creating ambience, mood and sense of painted surface to the whole.

I found it takes a little time to get used to working tonally in a preview mode with regard developing an aesthetic expectation of the final tonalities that rendering applies to the pixol objects depths and occlusions.

A fascination to use ZBrush as means of creating fixed 3D collages that appear like paintings when rendered seems to have gripped me once again.

Egads, I have arrived at the beginning.
What fun!! Or as the Houlet may cry - what a hoot!!

Yours Etc,

Boozy

PFC666, All hugs appreciated my friend

Glad to see some new ones.
I especially like the space and tonal mood you have created here and in the prawn image.

ooo! I love owls! I have never tried Zbrush’s 2.5D tools but this has me intrigued… Nice job

I like your works for a long time .keep it up!

Yet another image that reminds me I HAVE to try the 2.5D aspect of ZBrush a lot more… When you say “across five layers” I assume you mean five layers of depth in the image rather than “Layers” in the usual meaning of the word in ZBrush? Because you can’t use Layers within 2.5D can you? (must remember to check that when I get home!)

I really want to know what the significance of the rider and girl are if any ?
Ether way someone should hire you immediately to illustrate there books .
Awesome …

Jochen - lovely to hear from you and thank you. I’m hoping to push the technique a little further and will post the results when I do.

Owl of Missouri - thank you. Owls it is true are such wonderful creatures. 2.5D I find is more like working in a traditional media such as working with watercolor in the sense that it relies on you to commit to a decision.

zszs - many thanks and salutations to you kind Sir.

Lensman - yes indeed it’s the layers menu up in the menu bar as opposed to layers in Tools Edit Mode. Separating items in to layers is a good way to make texturing easier with multiple objects. You can also bake lighting to these layers.

pygmalion - hello Sir , the characters in the background are from Tam O’ Shanter which my wee boy is learning for his Burns night recital. Goodness knows what I would have illustrated had he chosen to recite ’ **** Up Your Beaver’.

Following these pieces I need to rest my eyes and neck for a few days as they rely on going in to a fixed stare much like a dog at a rabbit hole.

Yours blearily,

Boozy

I really like your work. Great style, and refreshing use of ZBrush. Keep it up!

Won’t you meet me there?!!

Further adventures in ZBrush 2.5D.
Pushing the complexity of technique further.
Keeping the eye fuzzy and the mind sharp and all that.

This piece as all recent pieces - sketched straight with no pre-planning.
The objective - to feel like I’m drawing with 3D.
Achieving an intuitive complexity of surface makes 2.5D the natural choice - something I could only achieve in ZBrush.

Looking forward to creating a new piece and will pop it up accordingly.

Yours etc,

Boozy

By reply: Metin - most kind thank you.

Very impressive. I’ve subscribed to this thread. :+1:

I love it Mark. Looks great with all these animals.

Another great one. Damn, you make this look so easy, but I have (and still am) experimented with 2.5D and I’m finding it very frustrating with getting my different elements positioned properly, lighting the scene well, etc. I’m trying to get away from comping different parts into a 2D digital photo programme and to complete it all in ZBrush, but it is not easy. Oh, well, one day.

fabulous job, thanks for sharing!!!

Alone, and in mourning, garbed in black,
I have these visions of myself in dark solitudes,
in pastures unknown or on slopes of stone,
stopped in my tracks beside pools whose depths astound.
Where am I? I ask myself. What ancient landscape,
what dead sky, which silent meads,
do I foolishly seek? Towards which miracle
of a long-lost star do my familiar steps lead?
Alone, I am eternal. A thousand-year old terrain
entices me, what was strange is no longer strange,
I was born to this place; desert without oasis
or snow-capped peak, here I rediscover where
I have wandered already, and, from God, a legacy
I can make mine. Or, how to fall to the devil’s design.

Very cool use of this medium!
