The face in the foreground - my Grandmother. The faces of the two âauld wifiesâ in the background have what we call in Scotland âfaces like burst neepsââ (turnips). An expression born from too much church and not enough philosophy of the darkness within themselves. Today righteous judgement I guess can be born from too much of any kind of indoctrinated thought and truly at present we are awash with it
As artists we can all suffer from from too much measuring, too much judgement - it stops us from seeing and it stops us from being honest. What makes art interesting I think is not how long it takes but whether it expresses anything at all.
