Existing Scattered UV map to nice single UV Map??

Hi,
I am rending 3d models using autodesk recap (turn photos into 3d model). The models (.OBJ) turn out good, but the UV map is just a bunch of scattered islands.

Is there an easy was to transform my existing texture into a nicer solid UV Map/texture?

This is what I have:

You can do it like this:

  1. Subdivide your model so that it will hold all the detail as polypaint.
  2. With the texture displayed on the model, press Tool>Polypaint>Polypaint from Texture.
  3. Go to the lowest subdivision level and create new UVs using UV Master.
  4. Go to the highest level and press Tool>Texture Map>New from Polypaint.

That’s the basic workflow. You’ll have to test to see what settings produce the results you want.

Edited : Ok marcus did a clever answer in the time I wrote my stupid one

I feel stupid for having several times used maya to transfer textures from one UVset to another with all the fuss, and didn’t think of that !!! Grr

One question thus… I don’t think it is the right section for those posts (zscripts section), and they often land here maybe on the front page a “general questions” should be better indicated ? I think lot of people when they read troubleshooting they understand “bug/crash/technical problem” like technical support.
