Why is Z2 out for the PC but not the Mac. I feel it’s unfair! I feel totally left out and after purchasing 1.55b in anticipation of Z2, when it’s released, i can’t use it!
What’s going on?

Relax, it’s coming.
Have patience, it’s coming.
Next time that will be the inverse
Pilou
check’s in the mail!
hi jaystanfield … i feel same as you, as i am also mac user … what i find unfair is, that so far there are no announcements declaring how long we have to wait, it would make things a little easier … and i would like to know if mac-z2 is for osx only or runs also on os9 … to my knowledge this question has never been answered, though i saw several posts asking just this …
but, i do enjoy observing now how all pc-users have fun, they show us in detail what z2 can do, they learn, and when we get z2 (and hopefully running on my mac ! ), they are ready to help us
then make haste and return to your garret and let your frustration be your muse.
Kokoro- I received an email from Aurick confirming that Z2 will be available for both Mac OS9 and OSX users.
As excited as I am for the Z2 release, this is one Mac user (of the very few, it seems) who is patiently waiting for Z2.
I’m sure Pixologic are working their arses off to get it out. Complaining doesn’t help. It just makes us Mac users look like a bunch of whingers.
(Pointing at PC kid with Z2):
>Waaaahh< I want one, NOW!!! >Waaaahhh<
Hi cwahl,
I don’t think kokoro is simply complaining. When he says:

quote:
… what i find unfair is, that so far there are no announcements declaring how long we have to wait, it would make things a little easier …

he is saying that there is a lack of communication to Mac users. I think there is quite a few of us out there. Most choosing not to talk. But I think it’s fair to ask for a more clear status of ZB for Mac. I don’t think it has to do with being impatient or being a whinger. All we ask is for a little courtesy and customer service. After all, we have to wait longer than the PC folks. I don’t think good communication is much to ask.
My 2 cents…
Cheers!
Edit: The Mac version of Z2 is developed and optimized to run on OSX and it is not certain at this time if there will be an OS9 version. If possible, we will try to support OS9 but it may not be practical (OS9 is missing important features and will delay the release of the Mac version).
Furthermore, most OS9 systems will most likely not have sufficient power and RAM to support the new Z2 features.
As stated previously, I will post any relevant information as it becomes available.
Don’t view us PC users as getting things before you. View us as extended beta testers ensuring that you’re software is perfect
Seriously though, I’m a mac user at work and I have to ask this question. Why in god’s name would you still be in OS 9 at this point?
wow !! this is great news !
i was just too anxious new z2 would not run on my very old mac with mac os9, since i cannot afford in moment new mac with macosx. be assured, i wait patiently and i always was patient
billhdz is pointing out correctly my intent with post, i just wanted fair information, no more no less, thanks for clearifying my point, billhdz … only me am a “she” …
‘The enhanced performance of Z2 may not prove to be compatible with OS 9’
Aurick can you clairfy what you mean by ‘enhanced performance’. I’m assuming you mean it’ll just be slower?
Nimajneb- OSX is a completely different operating system to OS9. It’s not just a case of upgrading over the internet. It means buying a completely new computer and rebuying all the programs to match!

Yay, so as an OS9 user I’m looking forward to a free upgrade that either won’t exist or won’t have half the features.
I just hope you informed new OS9 Zbrush 1.55b buyers of this news before they spent they’re money hoping for a free upgrade.

I think there is something that people need to remember here. When you purchased ZBrush 1.55b that is exactly what you purchased. You got what you paid for. Pure and simple. You did not pay for Z2. Yes, Pixologic offers Z2 for free to exisiting Zbrush 1.55b customers (and that is great), but we did not pay for Z2. We paid for ZBrush 1.x (replace the “X” with the version number you paid for).
I recently purchased a somewhat expensive item for my computer. The company that I purchased the item through wanted to show me support and gave me a free gift (a $200+ piece of software). I cannot use this free software and it sits on my desk. Should I complain? I think not.
Now, I realize that this is a different scenario because there are people that would have purchased ZBrush 1.55b just to get Z2 at a cheaper price. Still, it seems strange to purchase a piece of software if you are not certain it will run on your computer. It seems like it would have been in your benefit to have asked Pixologic if Z2 would run on OS9 before making your purchase. Even so, like I already said, you actually paid for ZBrush 1.55b (which, in and of itself, is a fantastic piece of software) and you got what you paid for.
Dan, you make some relevant points, but I’m assuming you are either
a) A PC user, or
b) An OSX user.
In other words I don’t think you’re in the position to relate to this predicament. But apologies if my assumption’s wrong.
If anything my main beef is with Apple, who have taken OS9, a relatively new operating system, and in effect have made it obselete, with all programmers making OSX only programs.
Also, a couple of weeks ago I was sent positive information from Pixologic regarding Z2’s OS9’s availability. Now I already owned Zbrush, but if a new buyer received this same information they would have been buying Zbrush on false (albeit, badly informed) information.
I just think the Mac download page should have a larger, less vague disclaimer.
Pixologic, don’t get me wrong. I love you guys. And I’m still hopeful of an OS9 Z2 version. But after getting my hopes up for the last couple of months, it seems all for nothing.
Please understand that we will make every possible effort for it to run on both platforms, but it may prove to be impractical due to Z2 requirements and it will certainly delay the release of the Mac version (which most likely will not make OS X users happy).
I’m seriously considering switching to PC (cheaper than upgrading to OSX). Where do I go to get info on a cross platform upgrade?
That sounds good, cwahl. Come over to the dark side
cwahl:
Can totally relate to the money issue. Let me say this though. There is no way Apple should have stayed with OS 9. I’ve used Macs all of my adult life (going on 32 now). I programmed them in high school. I use them everyday for production (prepress). OS 9 continues to be a boat anchor around my colleages necks. Unstable. Slow. Uncompatible with any other operating system to a large degree. It was really time for a new (and I say that loosely, because IMO OSX is just the grandbaby of NEXT boxes) idea. By building the new OS on a UNIX core, Apple made a great move. OSX is a rock for me. The devs would be mad to continue OS 9 development. It’s a dead dog. I’m amazed the Pixologic, as small as they are, is even bothering with it. Apple maybe heavy handed in this, but their decision to make the break clean is good for development of their platform. No divided resources. No Second R&D dept. Plus they opened their dev base to the whole open source community!
What Apple really screwed up with was transitioning its userbase. When OSX came out, they basically just dumped on the users and said “here you go”. No freaking manual, crappy help files. It was horrible. It’s taken till 10.3 for us to finally begin bringing it into production en masse. Apple the people computer seemed to have totally forgot who they build computers for.
Moving to PC however is not necessarily the answer. You want to talk about a company that’s out of touch with their userbase. A company that doesn’t give a crap about what the users want. A company that wants to force their solution down your throat without so much a dinner and a movie. You’re talking Windows.
So don’t be in such a hurry to jump ship to PC. Most companies that have OS9/OSX applications offer upgrades to the current versions at “reasonable” rates. Bite the bullet, save your pennies and move up when you can. You’ll be glad to stayed.
