First of all hello everybody, I’m glad to be here.
Some introduction:
I have now a solid background of about 4 years doing 3d with Cinema 4d and Maya. Now I want to dive deeper into digital sculpting with ZBrush because of its powerfull tools and workflows.
So far I’m making pretty good steps foreward learning ZBrush but there is one hook, materials.
I’ve watched all video tutorials on Picologic.com about materials but I have still hard times understanding the principles behind that.
In Maya I create a material, assign whatever color, whatever bump, specular, reflections…and so on and then I assign my material to the object.
Here I have modifiers with up to four shaders (which I can’t enable because they are all greyed out), for the Matcap maker I assumed there to be something like a “create new Matcap material” button to create new materials completly from scratch, maybe similar to the Maya workflow I mentioned before, but its not. Playing around with the sliders doesn’t do anything and as far as I understand it up to here there is no real way creating new materials, you just can modify existing ones, right?
You see I need help on this, so are there any tutorials out there covering the basics of the material system, maybe explaining each button in detail, how to use it, where to find it, what it does. Or maybe someone of you has good advices.
Btw. I allready looked up the ZBrush online docs, unfortunately that wasn’t very helpfull since it tells you what you can do, but not how.
I would really appreciate your help.
