Error Loading File

Anyone have a work around for this:

Error while reading m_pLinksFaceList

Then crash. This occurs when attempting to load a ZTool.

Here is what happened just prior to this error:

  1. I was in the middle of saving the file (the previously sequenced file still opens just fine) when I accidentally double clicked the ZBrush icon which attempted to launch a new instance of ZB
  2. An error message appeared and I clicked OK (I don’t remember what this error message was)
  3. The original instance of ZB crashed
  4. The new instance of ZB opened
  5. I closed the new version and restarted my computer

Other information:

  1. The objects in this file are a mix of imported OBJs along with a few items created directly inside of ZB 3.5 R3
  2. I am running Windows 7 Professional (x64)
  3. I have 8 GB RAM
  4. My computer is running Intel Xeon CPU W3540 @ 2.93GHz 3.06GHz

sounds like a corrupted file…same thing happens to anything concerning a crash during save.

I am thinking that as well, but wanted to hope that while I was asleep a solution might majically arive, lol.

same problem over here. Is there any chance to get this file back?
Please it was such a lot of work.

As far as I know it was a dead file - I redid the work and moved on. Here is the new naming convention I have adopted which has really helped me:

ProjectName_Sequence#_SubtoolName_Sequence#.ztl

here is an example of how this would look on my rexxar project:

Rexxar_026_ArmorBelly_021.ztl

This keeps them organized according to overall project progress as well as gives me a “subtool” category to keep sequence of as I work on that subtool. When I move to the next subtool it would look something like this:

Rexxar_027_Waterskin_001.ztl

I have had other crashes since that curruption, but with this naming convention I only lost about 15 minutes of work.

Now if we could just get them to give us two very cool things:

  1. A file save increment such as 3ds Max has (increment upon save under preferences)
  2. A setting that auto asked you if you want to save based upon a time setting you input
    a. this could have a delay button that would delay based upon an input you set - such as 1 minute
    b. if you choose yes, it would automatically lower your entire set of subtools to their lowest divisions - save the file - then return the file to its previous levels of subdivision and visibility

Any thoughts on these ideas? I see no down side to them as long as we had a button to turn the entire function off if it annoyed some users:).
