Error 1926 installing ZBrush on win 7 ultimate 32bit os

I am having an issue installing ZBrush3 on Windows7 Ultimate 32-bit OS.

First off, I am the only account on the OS .

When I run the installer I get the error message:

Error 1926. Could not set file security for file C:\Windows\system32, Error: 0. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to modify the security permissions for this file.

I did some research on http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showt […] ge=4&pp=15 and read about changing privilleges on the system32 folder.

I went to the location, however it gives me another error when attempting to clear the Attributes square Read-only (Only applies to files in folder). When Square is clear, after clicking Apply, selecting the only not grayed out option Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, and clicking OK, I recieve a message:

You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes.

I then click Continue and get another error: An error occurred applying attributes to the file: C:\Windows\system32\12520437.cpx Access is denied.

I have the option here to to select Ignore, Ignore All, Try Again, Cancel. I chose Try Again, but the message keeps popping up. So I tried Ignore All, this takes me to a dialog box of Aplying attirbutes… then it looks as if process was completed. However when I right click and go to system32 preferences again, I sill see the Read only box filled in.

I then attempted to go into the security tab and chage user privilages.

When going here, I see my Username, selct it, and click edit. When I try to allow Full control for the location and click either Apply or OK I get the following dialog box message:

You are about to change the permission settings on system folders, which can result in unexpected access problems and reduce security. Do you want to continue?

I click Yes and get an Error Apply Security dialog box with the following dialog:

An error occurred while applying security information to: C:\Windows Access is denied.

I select Continue and get dialog box Windows Security Unable to save permission changes on Windows. Acces is denied.

Can someone please tell me why Windows7 is giving so many permission issues when I am the ONLY USER ON THE COMPUTER?

Thank you,

-Cheese

Is this the trial version or the commercial release? What is the exact version number?

I am also encountering the same issue with error 1926. Has a solution to resolve this issue been found?

I am running windows vista home premium
dual core 2.5 ghz processor
2gb ram
MacBook Pro - bootcamp

Does this issue exist in the full version?

Thanks,
Steve

I’ve done some research and this error is typically caused by attempting to run the installer while logged into the computer as a regular user rather than an administrator.

:small_orange_diamond: ZBrush 3.5 must be installed and activated by an administrator account.
:small_orange_diamond: The ZBrush 3.1 trial must be installed by an administrator, but then should first be run by a regular user.

I’m also having this issue on Windows 7 Ult. 32bit, I am the only account and administrator. I disabled UAC and attempted another install but I received the same error.

Could you try downloading the installer again? It’s possible that you just have a bad download.

If that doesn’t do the trick, I have read that changing permissions for the entire drive where ZBrush is being installed to “Everyone” having full control (might be called Read & Write on your version of Windows) can resolve the issue. Once installed you should be able to change the permissions back.

Alternatively, navigate to the folder that it names, then change the permissions for that specific folder so that everyone has full control.

This is a very challenging problem to troubleshoot successfully because the problem lies in the fact that your computer’s permissions are set up in a way that the installer does not expect. Unfortunately, we have no way to know just HOW those permissions differ from the norm. Beyond what I’ve already said, it’s just a matter of pointing you to the fact that SOMETHING about your system’s permissions are preventing the specific folder referenced by the message from being written to correctly.

I apologize for the lenghty time it took me to reply back.

I’ve attempted to edit the user list on the “System 32” folder but windows doesn’t allow me to.

I’ve attached the installer error prompt in hope it will help.

I’m sorry, but I’ve provided as much assistance as I can in this matter. This error is NOT being given by the ZBrush trial installer. It is a Windows error.

I’ve researched like crazy looking for causes of and solutions to this error. Ultimately, there is something unusual about your computer that is preventing permissions from working correctly. If all of the advice given so far cannot fix the problem, the only real option remaining is to reinstall Windows itself.

I have solved the problem. For some reason my user did not have sole ownership of the folder.

After taking ownership I gave the administrator group full control. Which solved the problem.

Thanks for your time and assistance. :sunglasses: :+1:
