erm..different UV maps for subtools?

i have 5 subtools… each has different levels of sub divisions…
do i have to make separate uv’s for each tool?
and how do i import different uv’s for different tools?

There is no easy way for multiple SubTools to be given shared mapping. I can think of a way to do it, but it would be very tedious and tricky. Plus, if your SubTools polycounts when added together total more than about 12 million points, a 4K map isn’t going to hold all that data.

To assign separate mapping to each SubTool, the question is do you want to assign UV’s in ZBrush or do you want to use special mapping? If you want to do it in ZBrush, go to level 1 and assign the texture size (out of 1024, 2048 or 4096 sizes) that comes closest to the number of points in your model. (A 1K map for about 1 million polys, 2K for about 3-4 million, or 4K for about 10-14 million.) Then press Tool>Texture>GUVTiles or AUVTiles to assign the mapping. You’ll also need to export the OBJ since that contains the mapping.

To assing mapping in another app, go to level 1 and export it. Map the model, then import it back into level 1. Be sure that nothing you do (including the import/export settings) in your other app changes the point order of the model. The only thing that should be changed is the UV’s.

i am making uv’s in blender…

suppose i make uv’s of head, cap, hair… how do i import all the three uv maps together in one object?

when importing head uv into head(zbrush) i have to hide the other subtools?(hair and cap)?

or i should do it this way

import head uv into head… then save the tool.
then hide head, import cap u’v into cap subtool and save… and so forth…

Lay your UV’s out so that each map is in a different UV space. Then when you import the whole model into ZBrush you can use Tool>Polygroups>UV Groups. When you turn on the polyframe view you should see that each color on the model corresponds to one of your UV maps. From there it’s a simple matter of pressing Tool>SubTool>GrpSplit to break the model into separate SubTools based on the polygroups and UV regions.

thankyou thankyou thankyou … i’ve imported uv maps for every tool now … moving over to max
