Eric - Character render

Hey everyone!

It’s been some time since I last posted anything here but I’m checking out new stuff here on a daily basis. It’s really great to see this forum expand as much as it has with some really great Zbrush work. I wish I had the time to participate more but due to heavy work load I’ll have to stay in the shadows for a bit longer.

Although, I do some times get the chance to work on my own stuff but it’s usually stretched out over a longer period of time.
I started working on this before the movie Prometheus was released but I’ve added a few designs and it has a lot other influences from movies like Aliens for example. So there are a few “Easter Eggs” in this one if you’d want to call them that.
I’ll make sure to upload a bunch of Zbrush renders later this week.

I used a variety of software to try out different techniques and workflow. Zbrush is ALWAYS my main tool and couldn’t image creating this piece without it. One other important software I really wanted to sink my teeth in was Marvelous Designer 2. It’s a fairly new cloth simulation software that I’ve started using for personal and professional work. I made the vest and the overall with MD2. It works great together with Zbrush so I really recommend giving it a go. It’ll speed up you work 10 times when it comes to cloth. Let me know if I sound too much like a sales rep. :stuck_out_tongue: Other software I used and tried was: The Foundry’s Mari (textures), Maya (modelling), Mudbox (textures), Photoshop (textures) and the Maya plugin “Yeti” for grooming of the hair. I used to do all my renders in Mental Ray but I’ve decided to move to Vray which this one is rendered with as well as the shader for the hair.

Anyways, hope you like it. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try to answer them.

Btw, a really high-res version can be found HERE

Amazing piece, man. Some wires and other WIP behind scenes peeks would be nice to see.

wow great piece

Wow…this is spectacular!

Amazing! I love his face the most. It’s very interesting to look at and full of character. His vest looks great as well.

Really great job! Top Row IMHO! Kudos!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:D

Really nice character. Jacket/Gillet looks amazing. Love those Alien Stompers, would really love to have my own pair.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate it! And “by request”, here’s a render of pair of left foot Reebok Alien Stompers I did. They’re fairly clean here but this render was done before I made them a bit more worn. It’s was fairly hard to find good reference images for the version they use in the movie Aliens but overall I think they’re ok.

Love the work you did on the cloth. Especially the pants in the groin area. Phenomenal detail, very realistic folds. Great work!!

Top Row please!!!

:+1: I love the work done here! Maybe a small correction on the lower arms which look broken.

Amazing stuff!! I really love all composition. But your Zbrush sculpts are just excellents. All details and clothes so neat!
To me straight to the Top Row:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Very nice! Great job on the clothing!

Thanks for all the positive feedback and constructive crits. I’ll keep posting images as long as people continue to comment.

Here’s an image from Maya’s viewport, showing what the hair looks like using the groom plugin named Yeti compared to final render and test render.
