Erasing RGB polypaint with no layers

Hi guys, new member here.
ZBrush is so infuriating sometimes. I’m still fairly new but I keep painting myself into a corner.
The latest problem seems to be a result of me not having created a layer before I started RGB polypainting. I have an upper torso that I was just drawing some muscle definition on and when I went to erase a few lines I couldn’t. I finally realized that I had not created any layers. Frankly that’s total BS that I can’t erase now or at least it’s not obvious how.

So my question, is there a way to transfer the lines I’ve drawn to a layer that I can then add or erase on?

Thanks for any tips.

White is the equivalent of polypaint having no color data, so use that to erase. You can speed things up by having white set to be the secondary color, with the Alternate option toggled on so that holding alt will switch to it.

Brilliant. That allowed me to erase.
I find it very odd that while means no color. I understand mathematically that 0xFFFFFF is the subtractive equivalent but who would naturally assume that in a paint program? Guess you have to be a little bit insane to create such an awesome program.

What would have been massively helpful is if I could somehow erase to a layer so I could then toggle visibility et al.
