Erase poly paint - Answered!

Is there a way to erase polypaint?

select white, colour -> fill

not quite the same but works in most cases

If you fill with another color, it overwrites with that color.

If you fill with the Flat Color material, it completely erases any polypaint, restoring the object to the default behavior of displaying any color selected in the left panel.

Not exactly. The default state for polypaint is white. If you fill with white (make sure Rgb or Mrgb is on before pressing Color>Fill Object) then polypaint is effectively removed. To have the object display the selected color simply turn off Tool>Polypaint>Colorize (or the paintbrush icon in the subtool list).

If you fill with the Flat Color material (make sure M or Mrgb is on before pressing Color>Fill Object) then you will remove all embedded material, returning the object’s material property to the default state where it will display the selected material. This will only change the polypaint if Mrgb is selected (for material and color), in which case the object is filled with the selected color.

If the object has embedded materials, turning off Colorize will hide them (as well as any polypaint) allowing the object to display the selected material and color.

Marcus said what I meant to say, if only I wasn’t inhibited by my small brain (it can fit in my pocket). I frequently confuse color and material when speaking of polypaint.

:slight_smile:

That reminds me that sometimes people start off by assigning a material as a ‘base color’ and wonder why they can’t paint white. It’s best to choose a white material when polypainting, just so you can see exactly what colors you are using. (I like SkinShade4.) If you want to check exactly what your polypaint looks like without any lighting or material effects then turn on Render>Flat.

Guys thanks for the reply’s but I guess I should have been more specific in my question

What I wanted to know is not how to completely remove all paint from the object and stat with a blank canvas. I want to know if can you erase just a portion of what you have painted on your object. Like the eraser brush in Photoshop.

Just paint over the area with white. That’s all there is to it.

Ok thanks
