Eoin Cannon - Sketchbook (nudity)

I’ve started a new character, as I didn’t like where the devil character was going.
I get a lot of inspiration from the Discworld novel series by Terry Pratchett and the art that accompanies it. This character is Cohen the Barbarian, who is basically an ancient barbarian hero. The style is referenced from the art of Paul kidby.

Everything is pretty much in the blocking out phase at the moment, the costume elements will be retopologised and created in MAX.

Some progress on this character, I’m kind of working on everything at once so nothing is finished. Just about everything is going to be retopped in MAX where I will make proper versions of straps and fur and stuff.

Hey there, Discworld fan myself, Oonly one small crit, he’s too upright for his age if ou ask me :laughing:small_orange_diamond:+1: You can check my thread for miss treason concept if you fancy, you’ll see that I’ve taken upon a character that neither kirby nor kidby did, but stayed somewhat true to the 2D style of Discworld 2 game characters (not intentionally) with transition to 3D and more realism, which is why I don’t especially like my model :wink:

   btw I don't know about you, but I like Josh Kirbys art better, allegedly Paul Kidby's goes better with the Americans, I say please the bastards Terry and take their cash :D (RIP Kirby)

Good interpretation

I’ve started texturing the head. I’ve projected some photos using ZBrush but I haven’t tweaked them properly so you can see errors all over the place (nose and eyelid esp.) So far this is just a base and I haven’t painted any of the subsurface and weight maps for the skin shader yet. I’m still in the process of modeling everything but I need to jump around a bit to stop from getting bored. I’ve just noticed he’s also missing the caruncle on the inner part of eye.

Outstanding model! A young Cohen? 'Cause his age is 90+ in The Last Hero, just a thought. Again.

MoP - Yes I do plan to finish the whole character to this level (hopefully better :))
I’m trying to create a modeling/texturing showreel so I’m going to try and produce the best result I can given I can only work in my free time.

Salov Andrew - It’s a medium res model with a displacement map to get the details, rendered in Mental ray for MAX

I’ve been super busy at work for the last month so I couldn’t find much time to finish Cohen the Barbarian. It’s not exactly like Kidby’s character but it’s fairly close. I could be much happier with how this came out but I need to move onto another project and try to learn more about modeling. I seem to spend too much time messing with all the other stuff; lighting, comp etc, when I could be doing modeling excercises. Oh well.

ZBrush, 3DSMax, mental ray, photoshop, bodypaint, fusion

Body elements were exported at a low resolution and detail was applied with displacement maps. Costume elements were blocked out in ZBrush and rebuilt in MAX
