Want to show you guys how I’m using 3DCoat with Zbrush.
1.Send model to 3DC to make some tweaks for mesh
2.Autoretopo
3.Reconstruct Subdivs
4.Go back to Zbrush

Interesting. I’d like to know more about the autoretop. How well does it work? It doesn’t do well enough to get your model ready, or nearly ready for animation, does it?

I don’t see nice edgeloops in that retopo, so my guess would be that much like unified skin, it’s (auto-retopo) for sculpting only. Not much of a surprise, actually. A good point layout has more considerations than just form and programming that into an automated system that works with one click is a pipe dream. I thought though that the whole advantage of voxels was not to have to worry about topology until you had to anyway?

It looks like you’d have to retopo that again to get it animation ready.

Sure this way we cant got a nice clean retopo for animation. It just a quick way to get new friendly for sculpting topology after some voxel specific works.

Yeah, I expected as much. 3D Coat looks like it does have nice retop tools, but no magic bullet. :frowning:

hi eof3D i was wondering since im a user of 3d coat also because i like what voxels can do in the concept stage i hope it gets faster and improves with time. how did you do an auto topology on your dog sculpt? also is it better then the unified skinning algorithm in zbrush because zbrush tends to meld forms to together like fingers and toes or any appendage that is in close proximity with each other. im hoping piologic adopts voxels in a future update because they give you so much freedom in concept stage.not to mention a perspective accurate veiwport .lol…:wink:

it will be interesting to see what zbrush 4 brings to the table…

Yep, actually I was in first trying remesh all for dog but I’ve got his mouth clothed… but in 3DC all works pretty good.

I’m also cant wait Zbrush4 will be realized and I love it will be free upgrade (I guess)

The final image of the dog looks good, but I notice a lot of detail has been lost. Look at the teeth.

hey, thanks for bringing this to my attention, I didn’t know you could do this within 3dcoat…I have one question for you,…how do you import your models in there without major artifacting? As far as I can tell, the only way to import an obj as a Voxel, is to go to ā€˜Merge,’ whenever I do this, and with just about any setting, I get artifacting, so in general I haven’t been able to take my models from zbrush and tweak them there…do you have any tips about how to do this?

Hey eof3D, nice sculpts!!!
About 3dCoat now.

  1. Reconstruct subdivisions in ZB means that you already exported a subdivided mesh from re-topo 3DC room. Don’t forget this.
  2. Re_topo tools in 3DCoat are great. Auto quandangulation is the worst you could do there. Do some re topo a real one, next time, manually. Subdivide it 2-3 times so to capture some 3DC sculpt work, export it to zb, reconstruct the 2-3 sub levels and start working. An excellent workflow, I recommend it.

Re_topo is not just for animation. Its about real sculpture. In every 3d app.

hey, thanks for that image…I generally have the same options checked, perhaps I’m just getting glitches (on two seperate machines) for some strange reason.

one question, are you reconstructing subdivisions in 3dcoat? In your process breakdown, it looks like it, but lemme know if you just do that part in zbrush.
