Enter numeric values in deformation panel is difficult. Solution?

When I try to enter a numeric value in the deformation panel instead using the slider rarely works. Most of the time moves the slider instead highlighting a number. I do it clicking the top left corner of the slider box, as no number is visible until you try that. Using a cintic, that perhaps does the problem worse.
Any solution?

Not sure if I understood you correctly but for me it works when I click the middle once, then enter a number and press enter.

Thanks, it works. The problem is that I was clicking where the numbers appear in the top left and as you suggested I need to do it in the top center.
