Ennui - 2 Versions

Ennui - a feeling of utter weariness and discontent resulting from satiety or lack of interest; boredom.

Managed to do a wee bit every morning so I had a picture at the end of the week to post to my pals. 2 versions both with different qualities. Can’t decide on which is my favourite. Any opinions on which version you prefer welcomed.

Love your style -these are real beauties-hard to pick one here-the bottom image is my favorite.

Wonderful as usual! I like the second one because I find the scissors disturbing… :+1: :+1:

Another great picture BF. I like the top one more than the bottom picture. I like the precariousness of the scissors. To me, they represent the perils of life. And sometimes we’re just hanging on by a thread.

Have a great day and thanks for sharing,
Visionary

Like the Monty Python artist…who’s name eludes me…

Bottom one the best…as scissors (to my mind) are not placed well within the picture, or they could be bigger or serving their function in some simple manner, or have some directed implied intent.

And ahhh the body as clothing :+1:
In all though… superb creations.

As an aside…I have a feeling I have seen your artwork before…I may be wrong (seldom happens  ) and apart from anything else it is too accomplished to be in the hands of an amateur.

Boy do I look forward to viewing boozy floozie works. Marcel knocks me out too, as do mentat7 and aurick etc. but your dreamland style sucks me into another world.
I haven’t completed a single ZBrush work to show but the inspiration I get from ZBrush Central is wonderful.

I prefer the top one for two reasons. First it seems to be a bit sharper and I like the scissors in this one. They seem to symbolize the boredom a drudgery of the supposedly “women’s role” i.e. housework, childcare and those little hobbies like sewing etc. Just what I see in it and of course I could be way off base.

Great work. I like the top one, myself.

First, I love your work and either version is fine by me. Magritte is a particularly evident influence in this one. :+1: :+1: :+1:

My preference however is for the first version. Unlike Ed I do think the scissors have an implied purpose, though also unlike Donna I see their function somewhat differently. To me they seem to symbolise the option to cut the thread of the balloon, either taking steps to relieve the boredom or more darkly to end it all, either in reality or more likely simply as a perhaps consoling thought to toy with as a symptom of the ennui.

This is an interesting and thought provoking image… the individual can read a lot of things into it depending on their situation at the time of viewing it. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks folks for all your replies and comments.
Visionary and Flycatcher you’r both spot on with my implied narrative with the scissors. Ed it was interesting to read your opinion. In creating the piece I’d played with some of your suggestions but found that it took some of the ambiguity away from the piece. Leaving ambiguity allows the viewer space to construct their own narrative and draw their own personal responses.

The balloon and the body were also a play on the idea of the “birthday suite” the body into which we are born. The balloon representing the mind also doesn’t have the strength the lift the body free of the physical and psychological weight of the world. Instead it is at the mercy of the wind (not flatulence) and bumps around aimlessly lacking self determination and control. The thread as suggested represents fragility. The curious dog also percieves the body as merely flesh once freed from the mind and thus represents mortality.

However all this said it was my intent to wrap this all up in a simple humourous image that also is melencholic.

Really artistic image Boozy!!! I like more more more !!! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Hi Boozzy
Magritte style now
The ambiguity of the reality
Don’t too clarify your painting else we can’t will dream
Pilou fan
Ps Cute Red shoes
Pss Don’t miss the movie “L’ennui” by Jean-luc Godard from “L’ennui” D’Alberto Moravia

hey, I just had to say that your art is very inspiring. Most awesome work !

Pilou your right about not over explaining and clarifying the piece. I don’t know what came over me.

Wonderful

Stargo

l’ennui is not a risk with yours pictures, boozie!i think i prefer the first one, cose the scissors counterbalance the composition; i just feel the second bird, on the right, unecessary;one is symbol, two a flight? Well, not sure! anyway, these are very fine picts! M.

…scissors…must have the scissors. That’s the one I’d pick. I love the options it gives me for my mind to twirl and make up my own “story” for what I think it means. Somehow the imagery you chose to use seems to really fit with boredom…at least for me.

Don’t apologize for sharing the insights into the creation of your pictures, I always wondered where all that came from - you surpassed/left my assesment skills at the Rushed home in disgrace work.

I’m not good with psychological abstracts like Ennui.

Hmm, if I have to choose, I would go for the first one because it seems like in the second there is something missing in the upper corner. It seems more complete.

I too prefer the first one… Scissors=Cure for boredom… or at least in my mind Hahahehah! I agree with ETA that your work seems familiar and your skills are very apparent!
Keep up the great work Boozy!
Michael
