embedded alpha

hey guys,

is there a way to export an image with an embedded alpha and not only a separate one?

cheers christian

It depends on what you are trying to do. ZAppLink will export a mask and zdepth as alpha channels.

ideally what i would like to do is to render out a turntable with for example 16 images and embedded alpha channels.

Ah, I’m afraid that’s not currently possible.

the next best thing would be to hit shift-r, export the document and get an image with either an embedded alpha channel or alternatively get an image where the blank canvas has been cutout.
do you know it this is possible?
or is the only solution to hit shift-r, export that screen via zapplink to photoshop, delete the depth pass and merge down the alpha into the image?

cheers christian

You could use all 16 layers in ZBrush, ZAppLink them all to Photoshop. Not the easiest solution but would work I guess. http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/layer/

If you use ZAppLink then you don’t need to merge down the alpha - it’s a separate channel, not layer. If you go that route then you will have to press Layer>Bake after rendering with BPR and then press the ZAppLink button. This will make sure you don’t lose the render (and using ZAppLink with a model in Edit mode works differently).

But frankly I think the simplest way is to export the render passes from Render>BPRRenderPass and then comp the ones you need in PS.

Is there a way to script this? Place your tool, hit the button. It creates a new layer then redraws the tool with transformation etc until you have the 16 layers? Then you could ZAppLink it? Or maybe duplicate the tool with transform until you have them all, then place on their layers…
