edit UVs = mess explode

I exported my model to UV it in maya and UVlayout, but when i re import it to my ztool it explodes my mesh when i move up sub-divisions. i reprojected higher subdivs and it almost works but leaves a little mess.

is there a ‘right’ way to do this? is there a tutorial to follow so i know i get everythng right?

EDIT as a test. i exported the lowest level out of zbrush as a obj and re imported to zbrush and worked fine. then imported that same mesh into maya and didnt do ANYTHING except re-export it. i re import it to zbrush as lowest and it explodes in zbrush! im obvioulst missing something
