Edit Sketch (Shift A) Hot-Key Not Working | Z4/OSX

Hello,

Ever since I have installed Z4, I have not been able to enter the “edit sketch” mode with the shift-a keyboard shortcut. When I mouse over the “edit sketch” button it shows that shift-a is the hot key assigned, but it does not work.

When I press shift-a, my brush changes to a sketch brush, but the zsphere does not enter sketch mode and I have to manually press the “edit sketch” button to begin zSketching.

Any ideas on why this is happening? Do I need to reinstall Z4?

Any help is appreciated.

still having a problem with this. I reinstalled Z a month ago and it worked again, but now it does not :frowning: any ideas on what is going on?

is there anyway to reset my default keyboard shortcuts without reinstalling Z?

The following orange text is my ‘StartupHotkeys.TXT’ file. I have not assigned any hotkeys. The only thing I added was the ‘Undo’ and ‘Redo’ lines for ‘Ctrl+Z’ to work properly. You can move your ‘StartupHotkeys.TXT’ file (if you don’t want to delete it) and replace it with this one.

//ZBrush Hotkeys

[EDIT:UNDO,634] // Ctrl+Z

[EDIT:TOOL:UNDO,634] // Ctrl+Z

[EDIT:REDO,890] // Ctrl+Shift+Z

I had a similar problem several years ago with ZB2 and MacOSX. As it turns out, another program running in the background (in my case, Quicken 2005’s automated account update service) was interfering with ZBrush. Try going to your System Preferences->Accounts and go to the Login Items tab. Uncheck all of the login items and services that startup automatically at login, then log out, log back in, and try ZBrush. If the hotkeys work in ZBrush, then it’s one of your Login Items or services interfering. Go back to the Login Items tab and enable each item, one at a time, logging out then back in after every one, until you figure out which Login Item is interfering with ZBrush.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, I told you wrong. Unchecking the checkboxes only hide the service from the UI at login. IIRC, I actually either enabled the guest account or crated a new, temporary account that didn’t have any Login Items, tested ZBrush, then when it worked, I went back to my account and deleted the Login Items from my account (using the minus(-) button below the items) until I figured out which one was the problem.

thanks for the tip, but no go. I tried a guest account and the shift-a shortcut works fine there. but on my account still nothing, after deleting my login items.
i will try reinstalling Z

Perhaps you could first try going to your Keyboard Preferences and press Restore Defaults to your system keyboard shortcuts?
