edit/draw/mode

I wonder what Iam doing wrong
whenever i am in edit mode and following tutorial to paint the objekt I push drawpointer and the program draws a new model
I can not get this to work
Help
can this be because I use a swedish windows version :frowning:

I’m not quite following the problem that you’re having (need more information), but here’s a test that you can try. Run one of the ZScripts that involves painting directly on a 3D object (if you don’t have one handy, I created one for this thread that will do the trick – it’s about halfway down).

If the script runs fine, then there’s something that you’ve missed in your steps, and by watching the script you should be able to figure it out. If the script blows up, then it’s likely to be a problem with the program or OS.

Another thing you could try would be to record a ZScript of you trying to paint on an object, up through the point that you get the problems. Save the script and upload it here so that one of us can play it to see what’s happening.

Don’t give up; we’ll get you sorted out!

Thanks you are the best
your script works fine
now I know it`s just me
back to trial and error

This is the way I understand I should paint on objects when in edit mode
I checked your script but I still do not understand where I go wrong
I recorded the actions and upload it if you would like to take a looksilly me.txt

Hmmm. What you sent was the ZScript commands list. You must have clicked on the “Export Commands” button in the ZScript menu.

To record a ZScript, you start with the ZScript:Record button. Unless you’ve changed your preferences, this is on by default when you start ZBrush. When you’re finished recording and want to save, you click the “ZScript:End Rec” button (right next to the record button and below the Export Commands button). It will automatically ask you what name you want to give the file and where you want to save it.

I look forward to seeing it so that we can get this figured out for you.

'Morning Dragonlady . . .

“I still do not understand where I go wrong” = If you draw a Sphere3D on the canvas / choose a Color & Material of your choice / select “Draw - MRGB” / select the two green squares in the “Transform” window, the same as in my image below / select “Color - Fill Object”.

Now you can select any Color you want to paint on your object by pressing the left mouse button & painting anywhere on your object.

I hope this will help you in understanding what you might be doing wrong. Have a good one . . . Mark.

PS: ( 'Morning Aurick . . . Sorry I haven’t had any time for ZBrush & the forum lately, I’ve been really busy with several different things since last Tuesday. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back to normal in a few days. Have a good one buddy . . . Mark. )

OK
Mark when I tried it the way you descibed it worked.

Aurick tried again to record file
when I try to paint on my modell this happens
same thing happens if I click the drawpointer when trying to model something
if I understand correctly I can use this drawpointer when modelling also
I can use Move on the same place

Hi again Dragonlady . . .

“if I understand correctly I can use this drawpointer when modelling also”

Yes, you can use your “Draw Pointer” for almost everything that has to do with editing an object in ZBrush. If you look at the settings I have choosen in the images below, you’ll see how to use your settings to achieve different results in editing an object in ZBrush.

First, if you want to add to the surface of an object you would use these settings:

If you want to subtract from the surface of an object you would use these settings:

If you want to enlarge or shrink a portion of an object you would use these settings:

There are many more ways to do editing in ZBrush, by using the “Draw Pointer” & different settings, but these few should get you going in the right directions. As you learn more & get more comfortable with ZBrush, you can ask more questions & you’ll get more answers.

I hope this will help get you even further along with editing objects in ZBrush? Have a good one . . . Mark.

Hello, again!

First off, welcome back, Mark! Good to see you keeping me honest, again. Great stuff that you’ve posted here, too.

Dragonlady: I’ve looked at the script, and the problem that you’re getting is because you’re forgetting to enter Edit Mode before you try to draw on the object. As a result, ZBrush thinks that you’re trying to draw more objects rather than edit the one that you just drew.

Your Transform palette will always tell you what mode you’re in, as well as allowing you to change modes.

The top left button (the draw pointer) means that you’re either adding objects or adding to an existing object.

The one below it (the polygon with one red point) means that you’re editing the existing object. You HAVE to have it pressed in order to be able to edit your existing object.

The other three buttons across the top vary depending on whether or not you’re in edit mode.

If you’re not in edit mode (the polygon button isn’t pressed), then they allow you to move, resize, or rotate the current object (provided you haven’t clicked on another tool and snapshot the object to the canvas). Clicking on one of these buttons immediately after drawing an object is how you get the gyro.

I hope that we’ve got you sorted out, now. Just follow the steps that Mark shows, remember the difference between draw mode and edit mode, and you’ll be fine!

Cheers!
Matthew

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. If you have a question in determining what mode you are in this might help

If you are not in some sort of Transform or Edit your cursor will be a white circle.

If you are in Edit Mode your cursor will be a Red Circle

If you are in a Transform Mode Move,Scale or Rotate your object will display the gyro.

ShortCut Keys

Press “t” to enter Edit mode. Your cursor will become a Red Circle. This is the mode where you draw and scuplt your object. Press “t” again and your cursor will turn to a White Circle. As long as you don’t select another tool or a brush you can return to edit or transform the object at will. If you do select another object or tool, change layers etc
your object will be snapshot to the canvas and no longer editable.

Press “w”, “e” or “r” to enter Transform Mode where you cane MOVE, SCALE or ROTATE your object using the Gyro. Press the key again to return to the White Circle Cursor.

Hope this makes sense and sheds some more light on figuring out where you be.
