edit button greyed out how?

OK, this is my third or fourth go at Zbrush and I am determined to learn this time around. My main problem is the Edit button next to Draw that is greyed out and I cant turn in on by either clicking on it or using the shortcut T. I have been looking at tutorials and such but none of them as an answer. Could anyone tell me how and why does my edit button is greyed out? What to use or click after I import my model to start editing it?

You need to have a model selected in the Tool palette and to have drawn it on the canvas:

  1. Click the large thumbnail at the top of the Tool palette and select a 3D tool [model].

  2. Click on the canvas and drag downwards to draw the model.

  3. Press the Edit button or press T on the keyboard.
