Edge Loop Explodes on Higher Subdivs

Hello everyone,

So I ran into an issue when inserting edge loops at either end of a pillar I have created.
My max subdiv level is on level 4 with around 0.5 million points.

When I insert some edge loops at lowest Subdiv level to try and compensate for the stretching due to moving some points it looks fine at lowest Subdiv. As soon as I go higher in levels it explodes.

I did exactly as the tutorial which was done on an older version so if anyone has a solution around this in version 4R4 it would save me a lot of hassle.

Thank You

Edge Loops and GroupsLoops don’t work very well when you have multiple subdivision levels. Go to SubD 1 and delete the higher ones before you insert loops. Then you can subdivide again. Sucks though if you had any detail sculpted in at higher SubD because that will be gone.

Thanks a lot. That worked. Bit of a shame it does not support higher Subdivs when doing an edge loop in the newer versions. Lucky I did not sculpt any details yet.

Cheers for your help.

No problem!

I had the same problem and I solved it this way.

On the highest SubDivision Level press FREEZE SUBDIVISION LEVELS (in the Geometry toolbar)
click Edge Loop
click FREEZE SUBDIVISION LEVELS

Now you get your Loop and you still have your SubDivision Levels and details on your mesh.
