dynamesh sub not working (answered)

Hello, I have posted here before about this. But the answers I got (which I thank very much) are about inserting a sub-mesh with a brush. What I want is to merge two sub-tools and subtract one from the other be using “group as dynamesh sub” and then applying the dynamesh. This is for 3d printing and I need to conserve my sculpture as it is and separate it in different parts. Right now this parts are intersecting and I need to delete the intersecting parts (boolean subtraction being ideal for this).

When I test this workflow with a sphere and a cylinder it works fine, but when I do it with my sculpture it doesn’t (same workflow).

Please take a look at this file:

you will find a sculpture of long hair. The lower part has two “pegs” and I want two holes in the upper part for them to fit. I want to subtract the lower part from the upper part. It is only one subtool with two groups. If you can figure out how to this operation PLEASE tell me how… it is not working for me.

I thank you in advance.

Just gave this a shot and downloaded the SubTool…

I got it to work by doing a Groups Split, then Dynameshing each piece. (The geometry of each piece seems to be a problem because if you split each piece you get a bunch of tiny random mesh parts.)

Once each of the two pieces is a good, solid Dynameshed SubTool, you can then run the normal Boolean Subtraction routine (making a duplicate ahead of time - of the piece you will be subtracting). The Boolean instructions from Pixologic are here:

Hope this helps…

Groupsplit them, duplicate the bottom subtool, and try this: http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/dynamesh/with-subtools/

Edit: Gah, I’m a slowpoke. Took too long playing with the file.

MarkisSBG, you da man.

it worked! At first it didn’t though! It didn’t work when I merged them together and then group the part I wanted to subtract as a dynamesh sub. It DID work when I merged them with the subtract icon pressed on the subtool before hand. A bug, maybe? anyways, thanks a lot
