I think this is mainly due to the inside of my mesh being filled with some holes/overlapping meshes.

I can’t be sure exactly what’s going on, but if it is indeed a case of “holes” being problematic, you could try using the Tool> Geometry> Modify Topology> “Close Holes” function, followed by the Tool> Geometry> Mesh Integrity> “Fix Mesh” function. Then try Dynameshing.
If that doesn’t work I couldn’t say, but if you put your tool file up via something like Dropbox, I’d be happy to have a look.

I followed your suggestions and while it fixed the model for the most part 1 particular area was still affected. It would be great if you could take a look ! Here is the file uploaded to my dropbox folder.

I was able to import this OBJ into Zbrush4r7p3 on Win 7, and immediately dynamesh without apparent issue. Are these not the results you get when doing the same?
