Dynamesh and shape

Hi, I like to sculpt using dynamesh to retain a clear mesh after modifications. My problem is, that I loose a lot of “mass” when doing remeshing (Ctrl + Leftwipe) using dynamesh.

For example I am modelling a foot. I have a resolution of about 128 and adding the toes. I use Inflat to give some more volumne and they look fine. Then I do remesh with dynamesh and the volumne gets lost and they look rather ugly.

How to avoid this? Perhaps dynamesh is not so good for modelling finer parts like toes or fingers?

Thanks
Jay

128 seems awfully low. The higher the dynamesh res, the more detail you’ll keep.

As Doug was saying, it’s probably going to be better to turn off Dynamesh as soon as you have the main forms you need pulled out (the toes, fingers, etc) to prevent having to constantly retopologize the model and risk such changes. Afterwards you can rely on subdivision levels to get the geometry needed to detail them. Possibly even throw in a zremesh between the two stages for a cleaner result.

To hold the form better when dynameshing, ensure that Project is on, and that the polish setting isn’t too high.

if i understand you correctly, you are asking how to keep the shape of the fingers after you’ve used inflate to get them how you like, not how to keep sculpted detail on the finger. if that’s the case…

after you inflate, either increase rez from 128 or scale the model up a bit then dynamesh. you need more polys in the area to hold the inflated shape.
