dynamesh and retopo

I have mostly done retopo in max, and or topogun.

max has pretty good retopo, have tried xsi and is about equally effective minus one or two options.

Personally havent tried dealing with it in maya yet. Have heard some good things though.

is there a way to retopo mid dynamesh? is that an odd question?

sometimes its nice to block things out and try to attack a model non-linearly.

So, dynamesh or regular mesh > retopo some > continue dynamesh > retopo again for any new updates ( scale orientation detailing etc)

Thanks for your efforts. Any points in the right direction will be helpful. I will try to continue looking at other discussions on this website for addl details when I have a chance.

No. Dynamesh will throw away all your topology.

The workflow of mid-retopo seems like a waste of time.

As Mentalfrog says, retopo before another pass of Dynamesh is futile. However, there is a use for a similar workflow.

Dynamesh, get you general shape. Then retopo. Then sculpt using the standard (old way?) of subdividing. Then you may continue to sculpt the finer details and make general tweaks on your clean geometry. But if you hit the Dynamesh button it will become a mess of tiny squares, and clean Geo will be lost.

Zenith.

thanks you guys for your responses.

Glad I got a response, and good ones at that.

:D;)
