I read the past posts about this, but I’m just not getting it. Can I have two monitors, with the ZB viewport in one and everything else in the other? Will I be able to navigate easily between the two with a tablet? Do I need two video cards?
Thanks.
Yes you can have two monitors, you can even stretch zbrush over both, but if they are different resolutions it might be weird. Yes you can have stuff on both monitors. Usually you set this up as either an extended desktop or dualview. I know using a Wacom Intuos i have no problems moving between the two, i just move off one screen onto the other.
You will have to check your video card, but most video cards now have dual outputs, some older cards allow adapters that split into dual as well.
Thanks.
So, with the viewport on one monitor and everything else on the other… is that extended desktop or dualview? I’m not sure what that means.
Is there a preset in ZB that allows for my preferred setup as above at each startup?
Hmm, i think zbrush remembers whatever you’ve saved out as your configuration but i’m not sure. for me it just maximizes on my primary monitor. You may be able to save out a different size when you save out your Configuration file in the Preferences menu.
I say extended and dualview because i think thats just what ATI and Nvidia call them, i know Nvidia calls it dualview cause that’s what i’m using .
I have dual monitors, but I have not tried anything but putting reference images o video tutorials on the second, still learning…
That stretch technique seems a little weird although my monitors are exactly the same. Do you use it? I’m just curious to know if anybody has found a good way of enjoying working with two monitors.
I have used the stretch technique once in awhile, but i dont actually have similar displays, i have a monitor as main and a HDTV as my second, and both are physically backwards, meaning i have my left on my right, i suppose i could change this in my settings but i’m used to it by now. Anyway when i use the stretch its just to put the side shelf off, i know Troy1617 does this as well. Don’t be afraid to experiment with all your display settings, you can always go back.
Just a tip - I’ve got dual monitors, and I find the best way to utilize them is not stretching your programs to take up both of them, but rather having your 3D/2D program maximized on one, and having your reference images / inspiration / tutorials on the other.
I seriously cant go back to just 1 monitor after having this setup.
My main aim for a dedicated monitor for the viewport only is to have the biggest real estate possible, for detail’s sake. BTW, what would just the viewport on one monitor look like (I don’t have ZB yet or two monitors)? Does it maximize to the top and bottom only, since it’s shape one one screen is taller than it is wide. Can I rotate the monitor for vertical orientation for better utilization of screen-space?
Rockin I agree with you and this is how i work, i was just saying that is is also possible to stretch for those who would want that.
Shokan, have you tried to download the demo yet and give that a whirl?
rotating your monitor depends on your video card drivers with my Nvidia this is something that is possible.
