Let your wallet be your guide. Wacom tablets are great but pricey. I have both a large and small version (Intuos 3). The only time I use the large intuos is if I’m tracing or working from a drawing as a sort of template. I use the small one mostly. If I had it to do over I would have only bought a small one. If you have the budget go for the Cintiq where you work directly on the screen. In most cases a Wacom Graphire would do fine. If you do a lot of painting the intuos is better and more responsive. It’s like the difference between a 600+dpi mouse and an off the shelf $10 CompUSA special. It depends on how much control you want.

I’ve never tried any other brand so I don’t know how they perform. I’ve never had a Wacom go bad for any reason or had a problem with their drivers. I still have the first Graphire that I started with and it still works fine. I use it at work. My next purchase will be a Cintiq. Maybe someone here has one and could enlighten both of us as to how it is to use?

Going for the Graphire 4… that one seems to be the best choice for me since i live in argentina and 1u$s is like 3,05$ from here so its really expensive…

Besides that, im really hard on budget since my car just today went dead and i have to rectify the whole engiene and that’s like 600u$s, so imagine!
